UGFTV Alum Evan Kelman Scores Tribeca Hat Trick with Where There's Smoke

Evan Kelman (UGFTV, 2015) will world premiere his short film Where There’s Smoke at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, marking his third consecutive film at the Festival as a co-writer/producer, and second film as a director. Where There’s Smoke, which tells the story of how a firefighter must convince the city commissioner that he's able to return to the line of duty after a tragic accident, screens April 28, 29 & 30.

Kelman’s first film selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015 was Bandito, a coming-of-age drama about a young boy who stows away to join his older brother on a highway truck heist.  Bandito was Kelman’s thesis film as part of Tisch’s Advanced Narrative Workshop, led by Vondie Hall, made in collaboration with several Tisch classmates, including co-writer Parker Hill and producer Sebastian Savino.  In 2016, the festival screened One Good Pitch, directed by Hill and co-written and produced by Kelman. The film, which depicts a son trying to reconnect with his father through baseball, was also the product of a narrative film class at Tisch.

Established on the heels of the 9/11 attacks, the Tribeca Film Festival was created to revitalize downtown New York and has grown into one of the nation’s most important film festivals, celebrating a “new age of storytelling” by bringing together visionaries across various industries and diverse audiences. Where There’s Smoke was one of the 57 short films selected out of 4,385 submissions in the competition. Tisch alumni collaborating with him included Parker Hill (co-writer/executive producer), Lizzie Shapiro (producer), Henry Hayes (editor), Connor Murphy (DP), Seth Margolies (gaffer), and Mackenzie Berkman (production coordinator).

The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival runs through April 30.

Submit Now! OBB Pilot Season!

We are pleased to announce the kickoff of the 2nd annual OBB Pilot Season!  Pilot season is a program where LA-based production company OBB Pictures selects and finances pilots or proofs-of-concept for original TV/digital shows.  Over the next few months, we will be accepting pitches and ultimately greenlighting 3-7 projects.  Once we produce the pilots, OBB will help each creator bring the series to the marketplace with the goal of selling the show to a major distributor.

We recently wrapped production on last year's winner, NYU grad Lara Sfire, with her show "V in the D."  Here is a recent article about it:  .

The first round of submissions is due on June 16, but please take a look at the below documents for more information.  I encourage you to submit a concept - we'd love to work with fellow members of the Tisch community.  Several of us at OBB are alums, including OBB founder Michael D. Ratner.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
