The first semester of the UGFTV Los Angeles internship program officially ended in May and it was, by all accounts, a smash hit.
Five students (Casey Bader, Patrick Briand, Sarah Czuprynski, Zach Romeo and Lanna Wang) helped launch the program! What'd they do? They secured internships, found housing and transportation and spent their last semester in (sunny) Los Angeles. Imagine that!
By day, interns worked at agencies, management companies, production offices and more. One evening a week they participated in a seminar, which was built around industry professionals. Among the guest lecturers on the writing side were Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers), Jennifer Schuur (The Catch) and Andy Bobrow (Last Man on Earth). On the producing/management track, guests included Tom Lassally of 3Arts, Debbie Liebling of Red Hour, Gerard Bocaccio of eOne, Rachel Miller of Haven and Sarah Shepard of Smokehouse.
Derek Simon (UGFTV, 2011) and Lauren Ciaravalli (UGFTV, 2013), who are currently working in the business and living in LA, also came by to speak, as did Darian Lanzetta (UGFTV, 2014) of CAA. Guest alums shared their stories, insights, and to provided advice for people just beginning their careers.
Again, this was the pilot for the program. We look forward to building on a terrific first semester and think the program has great potential for UGFTV.
